Apologies and SalutationsI am writing right now from the right side of the world (mid-right, I guess) - Cannes, France. Today is the 5th day of the 10 day Cannes Film Festival. This is my fourth year in attendance and it gets more fun with every visit. I don't have very reliable Internet access so I will save longer postings for when I return to NY, on the 28th of May.
Two interesting bits-
1) Paul Andrews, a respected writer and fellow blogger, included GAZM.org in a recent article about online journalism in the aptly-named
Online Journalism Review. Read the
article here and check out his great
blog here.
2) Last night (around midnight) I was relaxing with a few friends in the lobby of the Carlton hotel and
Michael Moore walked in, alone, looking very content with life. A strange feeling came over me when I thought about him as a fellow blogger and not as Director I have respected for many years. Actually, while I guess he wouldn't be considered a blogger, he has blogged from his book tour and made other writings available online. The approachability of bloggers must have overtaken me as I walked up to him without hesitation. I let him know how much I appreciated him taking the time to log his thoughts and keep up his website.
He is a pretty cool guy (I'm so glad he wasn't an ass) and asked me where I'm from and what I do. He also said he plans to keep up the log and recently got a new webmaster. Is that considered a scoop? Where my few words of encouragement helpful in getting him to continue? I hope so. if you are interested to know what he's doing in Cannes, read
this article about the press conference for his new film, "Bowling for Columbine."
So there you go, an apology, a plug and a story from the trenches.
Hope everyone has a happy, enjoyable and productive week.
