Kill Bill Volume 2The first Kill Bill was an interesting movie, although I never got into it as much as others seemed to. It was unique, did some cool things, had great action, tons of blood and strong characters. Tarantino knows what he's doing, that's for sure.
The second one, though, blew me away. It isn't like any other movie I've ever seen. Combined, the two movies present a very interesting package. I can respect much of what Tarantino did with the first movie but I am genuinely impressed with what he did for the second. And when looked at together, you can't help but love them.
Compared to the gory, long, bloody fights of the first movie, the second had almost no fighting:
-We interestingly don't see the gore of the wedding masacre.
-She pokes out Daryl Hannah's eyes within the first second of picking up a sword.
-She doesn't even get to kill Michael Madsen!
-She doesn't kill the Asian assassin in her hotel room (I realize this is a flashback but still, you get my point).
-She kills Bill (the whole point of the movie!!) while
seated!!!
-In fact, am I wrong in saying that there is almost NO sword-fighting by her in the entire film (except for a second where she locks swords with Daryl Hannah).
-Is there even one person killed by a sword in the whole film?
-Fine, she does fight the old mystical teacher guy but that whole thing is funny and weird and although she fights him he barely does anything.
The second film is, in many ways, an explanation of the first film. Almost as though there's one film filled with action and another filled with explanation. There are many long, slow, methodical parts to the second film - such as Bill's long monologues (reminiscent of
American Psycho-style monologues on 80's music). I especially like the one about Superman.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Gotta love the happy ending!
